Word has been received of the death of Alan Clingan, former Grace Brethren pastor. His obituary appears below.

Alan Clingan, 1942-2017

Alan Nelson Clingan, 74, of Hagerstown, Md., died Nov. 25, 2017.

He was born Dec. 13, 1942, in Harrisburg, Pa., to the late Floyd and Mattie (Keyser) Clingan.

Alan was a dedicated pastor and chaplain, and served at many places, including Grace Brethren churches in Pennsylvania and Florida; Meritus Medical Center and the John R. Marsh Cancer Center in Maryland; as well as Allensville Church of the Brethren in West Virginia.

He was predeceased by his parents, as well as five sisters, Susan Yates, Joan Arsenault, Frances Willard, Gladys Haines and Bea Toms; and one brother, Dr. Richard Norment.

He is survived by his loving wife, Frances Clingan; his son, Alan Richard Clingan (Cindy); his daughter, Mary Frances Clingan; his sister, Lois Rodeffer; three grandchildren, Alan Riley Clingan, Alison Grace Clingan and Alex Miller Clingan; and close cousin, Dr. Ron Keyser.

Family and friends are welcomed for a visitation Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. in Hagerstown. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Cornerstone Community Church, 20519 Beaver Creek Road in Hagerstown. Interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery, 600 S. Potomac St. in Hagerstown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742.
